Memorial has a long legacy of excellence in the ministry of music.
  • the late Elder Richard Baker, a gospel pioneer who gave a series of recitals at Carnegie Hall
  • the late Berniece Hall, who appeared on Broadway and in the international touring company of "Trumpets of the Lord," and on the Grammy Award winning recording of "Porgy and Bess" featuring Leontyne Price and William Warfield
  • the late Mother Evelyn Williams, one of Harlem's most beloved gospel singers of the past 50 years, who started singing with her family group, The Stanley Sisters. She was lovingly known as "our Mahalia."
  • Brother Jerry Williams was a longtime member of Rev. Timothy Wright's New York Fellowship Mass Choir. He continues Elder Wright's legacy through the Timothy Wright Memorial choir
  • Rev. Mother Ella Eure Eaton, a classical concert singer, who was featured on Virgil Thomas' "Four Saints in Three Acts."

Our choir has appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, at Harlem's Gospel Uptown nightclub, and with popular singers like Fantasia. And, you never know who might be visiting Memorial on any given Sunday.  Saxophonist Lonnie Youngblood and legendary singers like Melba Moore and Martha Reeves have blessed our services.
